Dates: 10am to 4.30pm on Thursday 12th April and 10am to 4pm on Friday 13th April 2012

This is a two day workshop designed to encourage your confidence and skills in making stylish paintings that move away from formal representation into modern colourful and adventurous techniques. You can choose to work in different ways selecting how far you wish to go with abstract techniques.

This course will be held in the comfortable location of the Littleham Leisure Centre on the outskirts of Exmouth. There ample car parking right outside together with disabled facilities. The programme will be tutored by Howard & Wendy Jones. We will begin the course with an illustrated talk about a very wide selection of artists who use abstraction of natural form in different ways. We will then make some preliminary drawings that explore shapes and structures. The two days will consist of practical work in the studio together with a daily review of work in progress.

We welcome all levels of artists from complete beginners to experienced professionals. We will help you make drawings from your selected starting points and show you how to then develop these into a painting. We will support you during the day offering advice on the progress of your work.

You will need a range of colours, acrylics, oils, watercolours, gouache or coloured pencils, drawing pens, pencils and any other lightweight materials that you fancy using. We are happy to tutor you in any media you may wish to use. Please bring appropriate boards, canvases or stretched water colour paper to suit your chosen media. A medium size sketchbook will also be very helpful.

The course will run from 10am to 4.30pm on Thursday 12th April and from 10am to 4pm on Friday 13th April 2012. There will be plenty of tables at which you can work but bring an easel you prefer to work standing.

Tea / coffee and biscuits will be provided. You will need to bring a packed lunch each day. There is a car park at the Leisure Centre which is right outside the entrance.

The cost is £90 inclusive of teas / coffees.
